If you’re interested in building a highly sensitive roadmap for your life, you’re in the right place.
Figuring out you’re a highly sensitive person is a huge relief, but it is also overwhelming to realize you ignored or even buried your authentic self, internalized the message that you were defective, and wore a mask your whole life to hide your sensitivities and stay safe in a judgmental world.
The mask has been in the driver’s seat of your life, following a roadmap designed by non-HSPs to determine your choices such as career, relationships, social life, and where you live. It may have led to a painful life of sensory overload, chronic depression and anxiety, the frequent need to withdraw, and problems maintaining relationships. Wearing the mask has taken the highest toll there is: your peace and wellbeing.
But there is nothing wrong with you. You deserve to take the mask off, put your authentic self in the driver’s seat, and follow your own route to a meaningful and peaceful life. The world needs you to access your HSP gifts of intuition, empathy, emotional intelligence, and creativity. The only way to do that is to follow an HSP roadmap designed for your life that is built around your particular sensitive nervous system.
Your highly sensitive roadmap may include:
A sustainable self-care practice that you learn to adapt when life has its ups and downs
Actively managing your energy daily, with awareness of what makes you feel depleted and what recharges you
Learning to set boundaries and say no, and how to cope if it doesn’t go well
Social guidelines, such as how often and for how long to socialize
A slower pace of life
A career that lights you up
Getting clear on your emotional and physical triggers and what to do when it happens
Emotional regulation
Language to talk about your sensitivity and what to say when someone says you’re too sensitive
Relationships in which you feel seen
A home in which you feel relaxed and can let your guard down
While every HSP is unique, our experiences are similar enough that we all require some skills and tools to navigate our lives, including:
A clear understanding of your physical and emotional sensitivities and triggers
Daily, sustainable practices for self-care and energy management
Keep other people’s emotions and energy separate from your own
Boundaries that honor your sensitivity and learning how to handle others’ disappointment
Language to talk about your sensitivity with non-HSPs and ask for accommodations
Addressing the shame you’ve been made to feel since you were young and learn to love yourself and embrace your sensitive gifts
Support from other sensitive people to normalize our experiences and needs
